This is a continuing course for those ages 14+ who have a firm grasp of the basics and the topics that were covered in Adult Beginner 101 and 102.

* Students under 18 years old must provide written permission from a parent or guardian prior to enrolling.

** Students who have not previously taken the Beginner 101 and/or 102 class but are eligible for Adult Intermediate 201 class will be admitted on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire further here.

About the Course

Student Profile

Students ages 14+, who have: 

  • Attended Adult Beginner 101 and 102

  • A solid grasp of the Vietnamese alphabet, spelling and pronunciation, and vocabulary from 101 and 102

  • Can speak and comprehend some Vietnamese at a basic level

What Students Learn

  • Vocabulary and object classifiers

  • Conversation: increased and consistent use of current and past vocabulary 

  • Listening comprehension

  • Reading from book dialogues and paragraph excerpts

Class Schedule

Week 1: Introductions; Review

Weeks 3-12: Describing feelings, shopping (food, goods), traveling, phone etiquette, and more

Each subsequent class briefly reviews the preceding class

Additional Details

Assessments will take the form of homework, quizzes, interactive dialogues and teamwork, and in-class participation.

Class materials include the textbook Tiếng Việt cho Người Nước Ngoài - Volume 2 (Vietnamese as a Second Language), which is provided for students. Students are expected to bring their own writing supplies, including paper, pencils, erasers, etc.
