VHC Stands With Black Lives Matter
In the wake of George Floyd’s death, as well as countless others such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and recently, Rayshard Brooks, Vietnam Heritage Center (VHC) would like to affirm that we stand with the Black Lives Matter movement.
We recognize that there has been a long history of Black oppression in America. The violation of human rights and the dehumanizing treatment of Black people are unacceptable, and we are deeply saddened by the horrible actions and aggression directed towards the Black community.
VHC was founded in 2013 to promote the rich traditions and language of Vietnam. However, as fellow Americans and People of Color, we want to support the Black Lives Matter movement as the Black community continues to suffer. We commit to joining the dialogue and fight for racial justice and equality. We have to stand together as a community. The media might make this seem like a political movement, but this is about the safety of all races and not having anyone ever feel “less than.” We will aim to work together as a community to create safe spaces and racial equity, because we are all stronger if we stand together.
As a small nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers, VHC will focus efforts on offering educational opportunities to empower our community to engage and take personal action. We are developing such programs and will provide updates as they are available.
